Understanding the structure of different andamenti is vital to developing sound technique in mosaic.
With contemporary andamento being used very widely in mosaic today, understanding its application is somewhat dependant on the knowledge of classical andamento. I like to think of the classics as the mosaic vocabulary. Like 'scales' in music which must be learnt and understood before improvisation can flow naturally. Level 1 introduces several common classical styles which are useful to know as you advance in your mosaic practice. These classes are held at a suitable time for students in Australia, New Zealand the Pacific, Some parts of Asia, the USA, Canada, and South America. Students in other time zones can still participate as all lessons are recorded. |
Andamento Level 1 introduces the following Classical Styles.
1. Opus Regulatum 2. Opus Tessellatum 3. Creating Outlining rows 4. Opus Palladianum 5. Opus Circumactum 7. Solomon's Knot 8. Direct on Mesh method We will learn about each technique in four ways. 1. Theory: Looking at mosaic examples. 2. Drawing: Building visual grammar. 3. Making: Consolidating in a physical sample. 4. Integration: Bring techniques together with method. Allow approx. four hours of homework following each lesson. Homework is uploaded to Google Classroom where written feedback is provided on each task. What's Included
1. 10 hours of live tuition. 2. PDF resources for each task. 3. Access to lesson recordings. 4. Personal feedback on tasks. 5. Extras recordings, tips, tricks, links. |
Technology Required
1. You will need a reasonable and stable internet connection. 2. Classes are presented live via ZOOM. You will need to DOWNLOAD ZOOM and ensure it is kept up to date. This is free to access for students as I have a Pro Account for hosting. 2. Class notes, video links, PDF resources and communication will be via Google Classroom. Students will be sent a link to join an online classroom. 3. Classes are LIVE and all classes are recorded. Students have access to the classroom and recordings for several months after the course for consolidation and completion of samples. |

I highly recommend the Andamento Level One online course.
This course is very well organised with a wealth of information that Caitlin presents in a clear and engaging manner.
You will grow as a mosaic artist as you work through her well thought out examples of classical andamento.
It’s the next best thing to being there.

I'm in New Zealand and enrolled in Caitlin's All About Andamento Level 1 and 2 online classes last year.
I was so happy that these were offered via Zoom as I wouldn't have been able to attend otherwise.
The classes are fantastic and being in a different country is no barrier at all.
Caitlin has a wonderful setup; you can see everything she demonstrates clearly and this is backed up with resources & examples.
If you are contemplating enrolling just do it, you won't be disappointed.

Caitlin's Andamento classes were so valuable in taking my mosaic practice to the next level.
Caitlin's knowledge of mosaics is extensive, and being taught about the history of mosaics alongside examples of the various opus we were working on each week was inspirational.Drawing is not easy for me, but Caitlin guided us step by step through exercises which have given me a set of skills I can now use for future mosaic projects.
I enjoyed creating samples each week that I am able to refer to when I am working on projects.
