ANDAMENTO LEVEL 6 - LESSON 2
LESSON OUTLINE
In lesson two we depart from the muted palette of Cubism and their observational multiple perspectives. We look to De Blaue Reiter and in particular the artists Kandinsky, Franz Marc and Gabriel Munter.
Whilst working during a similar time these works are completely different in composition, palette and inspiration. This exemplifies the extreme differences between movements working almost simultaneously and in neighbouring lands with Kandinsky in Munich and the Cubist in Paris. We learn about the ideas that underpin these works and the methods the artists used to gain inspiration. We also take a further look at colour in particular Advancing and receding colour and its effects LESSON 2 HOMEWORK1. Select a piece of music that evokes a mood for you. It can be any genre. I will collate these into a class playlist.
2. Whilst listening to the music, list 5 adjectives that describe the feeling it evokes. 3. Whilst listening to the music, identify what colours you imagine correspond to various phrases that may change with the progression of sound. (I suggest a starting point of 3 different hues) 4. Whilst listening to the music, notate a variety of marks that correspond to the sounds you can hear. (I suggest a starting point of 3 different marks) 5. Create a composition that includes the gestures or marks you identified above. 6. Create a mosaic sample of the above composition using the palette of colours you identified. Student responses to musical pieces of their choice.

The Links below relate to the piece 'The Colour Wheel' by Jim Moginie ( Midnight Oil).
The piece is composed for 12 guitars and is a composition that came from a residency at Campeltown Arts Centre ( about 1 hour from Sydney).
This piece reverses the idea of painting responding to music, with music responding to colour. This may lose some of you.. but I know others will just love this!
