Andamento Level 7: Features, Faces and Figures - Term 2
Andamento Level 7: Features, Faces and Figures PART B is an intermediate/advanced mosaic class focused on developing skill in mosaicing the human form through structural understanding, andamento and tonal modelling with specific focus on Byzantine mosaics.
Working with smalti, students explore the symbolism and stylistic qualities of Byzantine mosaic through the exploration of facial features, faces & figures and the associated decorative elements that exempify Early Byzantine, Late Byzantine, Norman and Neo Byzantine Mosaic.
The course combines intensive practical studies with strong theoretical grounding, supporting experienced mosaicists to develop confident, figurative work

UNIT 1 – Constructing the Face: Facial Features
UNIT 2 – Identity and Adornment : Full Face study
UNIT 3 – Gesture and Drapery: Hands and Fabric

Materials: Tools and resources are included. Smalti not included.
Term 2 we will be working with smalti, using thinset in the direct on plastic method. Students will be supplied with substrates and frames for their completed samples.
Term 2 FEES: $580 AUD
Includes 18 hours tuition at $25/hr + $130 Materials Fee
Printed resources, substrates, frames, large 50cm round panel for facial study, adhesives, studio equipment included
