WORKSHOP 2: 24 & 25 JANUARY 2026 (FULLY BOOKED) TIME: 10AM - 5PM both days FEE: $495 AUD including materials & concrete base Strictly 8 participants each workshop. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: In this two-day workshop, you will learn to create a free-standing or wall-mounted feather substrate suitable for later mosaic application and outdoor display.
Choose from a range of wing and tail feather shapes, or bring your own inspiration from a particular bird species - or even your favourite feather as a reference. You’ll begin by exploring your ideas through sketching and small-scale models to refine your feather’s form. Once your design is resolved, you’ll learn how to scale up and construct a durable armature approx 1m in height. The feather shaft will be shaped from galvanised steel rod, and the feather vane formed from galvanised steel mesh. Your feather will then be personalised and gently undulated before being coated with tiling mesh and thinset to create a strong, weather-resistant substrate. The finishing stage includes refining the edges and base of the form. While no mosaic application takes place during this workshop, the process will be discussed, with examples of completed works for inspiration. All substrate materials are provided, including a working base for construction and a heavy concrete base for displaying your finished feather nestled among the foliage in your garden. This means that last minute cancellations have a serious impact on the viability of workshops for all students.
In addition to workshop fees, many students are paying for flights and accommodation to attend.
In order to ensure workshops proceed the following terms apply.
- The fees are refundable less $50 admin fee only if your place can be filled by another student from the waiting list once the workshop is fully booked.
- Within 14 days of the workshop there are no refunds available, however you may gift or privately sell your place to another student.
In the event that a workshop is cancelled due to Covid 19 restrictions, tutor illness, or an extreme weather event, a full refund will be provided.
